My name is Juliet Carnell and I am currently employed as a software designer developing point-of-sale kiosk and e-commerce applications.


Skills

An extensive working knowledge of Adobe's Authorware visual authoring tool. I have developed large scale customer ordering systems using this tool and interfaced numerous POS and custom devices to it.

An extensive working knowledge of the Intel compatible family of computers under Microsoft Windows operating systems. I have programmed at the application level in the C# and Visual Basic languages on these platforms. I have also worked at the application level with Access, Adobe Photoshop, Excel, FrontPage and Word.

An extensive working knowledge of network management tools, techniques, and protocols. I have programmed object agents for SNMP, CMIP, and custom protocols.

I have worked as project manager on fixed price projects and have attended Digital Equipment Corporation training courses in project management.


Experience

1999-Present – Gilbarco Veeder-Root \ Intermedia Kiosks, Inc.

Lead Project Engineer responsible for the development of applications for point-of-sale kiosk terminals and associated Internet projects. Other responsibilities include network management, selecting development environments, hardware and other software packages for the company.

1998-1999 - AND-USA, Inc.

Web Site Project Manager responsible for the development of the corporate web site and other Internet projects. Other responsibilities include selecting web authoring, server, and other office related software packages for the company.

1997-1998 - Self Employed - Web Sourcery

Internet & Web Site Consultant primarily responsible for developing web sites and providing general computer consultation services to customers. Has also been developing a business plan for a cyber café that has yet to be financed.

1984-1997 - Digital Equipment Corporation

Systems Integration Consultant primarily responsible for providing project development services to external customers. Other responsibilities include start-up services, project management, and sales support. See the project detail section below for more information on what I was involved with during this period.

1978-1984 - Bendix Field Engineering Corporation

Under contract to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center as senior analyst and programmer was responsible for the maintenance, upgrade, and development of system and application software for the Mission Operations and Support Services group. Held a classified clearance.

1976-1978 - Kappa Systems, Inc.

As a programmer was responsible for writing and maintaining customer programs. Included were mailing list systems and survey statistical analysis programs. Also acted as the technical coordinator for the company's in house computer systems.

1974-1976 - Computer Sciences Technicolor Associates

Lead computer operator on contract to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, worked in real-time data collection operations.

Interests

I have been a computer enthusiast since 1976 when I built my first computer, a MITS Altair 8800.

I am an amateur fiction writer and recently presented some of my short stories on the internet in the form of a podcast.

For recreation I enjoy hiking, play a lousy game of golf, but I shoot a mean game of billiards. For relaxation I enjoy writing, reading, music, and working on cross stitch projects.

August '96 - Working as an expertise consultant for a large U.S. government data management program. Providing problem solving and trouble shooting services over the phone to the customer's multiple sites across the country. (Alpha/OpenVMS, Windows NT, DEC Standard MUMPS, TCP/IP)

September '95 - Engaged in preparing proposals and preliminary solution designs for prospective projects. This effort involved the use of structured analysis techniques and business writing skills. (DECdesign, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project).

February '95 - Consulted on the installation and configuration of system and network management products at a large international banking company. Provided trouble shooting, product customization, and customer training. (VAX/OpenVMS, Polycenter Console Manager, TCP/IP)

June '94 - Consulted on the upgrade of an office network. Tasks included network analysis and design as well as installation of products in a mixed PC and Macintosh office environment. (VAX/VMS, Alpha/OSF, Pathworks)

February '92 - Project team leader for large software development program to build a network management system for a satellite based telecommunications network. Responsible for solution design, system design, and directing the development team for the X.25 packet switched network manager portion of the system. (VAX/VMS, DECmcc, C).

December '91 - T&M project to write a suite of programs to capture data from remote collection sites via dial in phone lines using Y-modem protocol. The programs supported multiple dial-in lines on a terminal server and provided centralized call statistics collection and presentation. (VAX/VMS, C).

September '91 - Engaged in preparing proposals and preliminary solution designs for prospective projects. This effort involved the use of structured analysis techniques and business writing skills. (DECdesign, DECwrite).

March '91 - Residency with customer doing an object oriented analysis and design for a message parsing database application. Work includes creating a prototype of the X-windows compliant user interface, object oriented analysis of the application, and database design. (VAX/VMS, C, DECwindows, & Cadre Teamwork).

November '90 - Residency with customer developing a DECwindows and Sybase based knowledge gathering application. Work includes design and programming of X-windows compliant user interface and database design and implementation. Also acted as project configuration manager. July '90 - Working with the Sales Support unit to develop new project proposals for a customer in network management and artificial intelligence. Task involves analyzing current system specifications and customer requirements, developing a project plan, and presenting the proposals.

March '90 - Residency to provide system integration and testing of software port into VAX-C from Hewlet-Packard SPL. Task also included creating a software development and release environment for the customer. (VAX/VMS, C, VAX CMS/MMS).

October '89 - Residency with customer developing a large DECwindows based telecommunications network management project. Applications involve multi-standard communication protocol conversion, database design and implementation, SNA communications, and X-windows programming. (VAX/VMS, C, DECwindows, Sybase, & SNA).

July '89 - T&M project to design and program a CIM application to control a sheet metal slitter system. Operations include data entry, database, real-time data collection, and bar code generation. (VAX/VMS, FORTRAN-77, & INGRES)

March '89 - Extended residency to design and implement an application to collect data from a metal rolling mill and interface to a central database system. (VAX/VMS, FORTRAN-77, & INGRES)
